The dissertations displayed on this website have all been submitted towards a degree at a university. All these dissertations have been successful and the degree has been awarded. A wide variety of subjects have been selected to show the breadth of topics which have been undertaken. These are all examples of scholarly research that have made a contribution which is original to the body of theoretical knowledge. The standard required for a degree does vary from one institution to another and readers need to be aware of this. It is often recommended that degree candidates should read successful dissertations and these have been supplied for this purpose.

Although there is no charge for reading these on the screen, if you would like to have permanent access to a Dissertation there is a print-on-demand service available (for which there is a charge).

The first step seems to be to decide the criteria for identifying what a successful university might look like in the future. This, of course, is not a trivial matter especially as so many universities have become large multi-functional, multi-product, multi-objective organisations. As a starting point for a university to be successful in the future it will have to develop in its market place a reputation of facilitating students achieving their objectives. This seems to mean attracting good students, delivering competent programmes, and providing career opportunities. Of course, this is one dimension only and there are several other issues which must be addressed, which include research, collaboration with industry and other educational institutions and outreach into the community. It is unlikely that any one institution would excel at all these simultaneously. We are particularly interested in universities that have demonstrated innovative and creative approaches to meeting their particular challenges, visions and goals. Transforming the university by reimaging how it might function with regards to its financial arrangements, its admission, its delivery, its examination processes are of particular interest.

This call for case histories invites submissions from anyone who is interested in writing about a university which they believe has achieved some level of excellence and has positioned itself well to face the future challenges which the higher educational sector faces. A collection of these case histories will be published in the form of an anthology. All case histories will be peer reviewed prior to publishing. Although a publication date has not yet been set, it is anticipated that the final work will be available in the third quarter of 2021.
